AMP can easily identify users by name, MAC address, or IP address. AMP can show per-client historical

statistics and roll back to show this information for up to one year. The system can correlate user location and

network state over time. It can “play back” where a user was located over time, superimposed on top of a heat

map. The administrator can drill into the system at a particular point in time for more statistical details. In April

2010, Aruba announced embedded spectrum analysis and classification in their APs, but this capability will not be

available until Q3 2010.

Bluesocket

Bluesocket uses the AirMagnet Planner product for its free predictive design service. It also provides site surveys

as a billable service. The Bluesocket vWLAN management software does not import the AirMagnet design.

Therefore, network administrators must manually position APs on a floor plan and then reconcile the AP layout

with the as-built network.

The vWLAN management software provides a list of buildings and floors for network-management navigation. In

contrast, many other enterprise systems provide a tree view that enables an administrator to progressively drill

deeper into the network hierarchy. All network-management provisioning and status monitoring is available

through the Bluesocket vWLAN management system (see Figure 4). The controller software provides the control-

plane function and does not provide a graphical user interface (GUI).
